| Buyers Guide - What to look out for |
|
The interiors in general are pretty hardy. It's worth bearing in mind that no new replacement
items are available and trim will get harder and more expensive to source over time.
|
Seats
The side bolsters wear due to the repeated action of getting in and out and the seatbelts rubbing on them.
Especially bad on the driver's side. Look out for the usual cigarette burns and rips.

Dash board
Dash's are prone to cracking in the sun. The stereo apature is not a standard size, so often its been cut
to take a standard DIN. Only a problem if its been done badly and you want to refit the original.

Speaker Holes
Only later models (laser, 2.8i), or higher spec earlier ones (S, Ghia) were fitted with speakers in the front doors. Many will have been cut which is not
a problem unless it's been done badly or they've been removed. Either way you'll need new door cards.

Rear parcel shelves are also a popular place to mount speakers, so some are missing complete or have collapsed.

Botched Wiring
If an aftermarket stereo has been fitted, check the wiring is properly connected, insulated and fused.
The last thing you want is it causing a fire.

Heater Motor
This is renound for siezing up, so the fan won't work. Replacing is a pain as a lot of the dash has to come
off to get access. To be honest you'll be more likely to find one without a working heater.
