The Mk3 Capri inherited its running gear from the Mk2. This is generally solid and dependable
with parts being cheap and are easy to replace.

Gearbox
The 4 speed boxes are tough and last pretty well. Regular oil changes help, but
you'll be lucky if it's ever been done!
Capri's from 1983 on have the type 9, 5 speed boxes. These are often retro fitted to earlier models.
It's design can leave 5th gear being starved of oil so make sure it's properly topped up.
With both worn synchromesh on 2nd gear is common if it's done a few miles

Differential
Not a problem, but the casing can rust leading to leaks leaving the diff running dry. New ones are available from CCI
If you're buying a 2.8i Special make sure it's still got its LSD - they go for a fortune on eBay!

Suspension
TCA bushes wear and cause a vibration in the steering between 50-60mph. The best option
is to replace with heavy duty rubber versions rather than poly, as these can crumble
Look out for DIY lowering springs which have been cut. If your going down this route buy
proper shortened springs for around £25 each.

Rear leaf springs often sag with age.

Front ball joints and track rod ends can wear causing heavy steering but replacements are
cheap.
